BROOKLYN, N.Y., October 12, 2018 – The No. 3-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team was upset by Region XV rival ASA College at the Aviator Sports Complex Friday afternoon by a score of 2-1. The Mustangs fall to 7-1-1 on the season with their first loss and 1-1 in Region XV play, while ASA improves to 4-3 and 2-0 against Region XV opponents.
The Mustangs took the early edge when
Lucas Nishioka scored at the 12:46 mark for a 1-0 Monroe lead. That was the end of the scoring for the half, giving Monroe a one-goal edge at the break.
ASA tied the game up in the 55th minute with a goal by Rabiou Ay'gbede. Ay'gbede scored again in the 84th minute off an assist from Joshua Hernandez for the eventual game-winner.
Victor Camps made one save but shouldered his first loss to fall to 5-1-1. Tiago Da Silva picked up the win for ASA with four saves.
The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Saturday, Oct. 20, when they visit Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y. The game is set to kick off at 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
