BROOKLYN, N.Y., January 15, 2018 – The Monroe College women's basketball team fell in its Region XV opener against No. 25 ASA College on Monday by a score of 71-55 at St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn. The Mustangs fall to 10-8 on the year with the loss, while the Avengers maintain a perfect record at 14-0.
Amani Williams had a strong day for the Mustangs, leading the team with 21 points, five assists and four steals. She consistently got herself to the free-throw line, making 9-of-10 attempts from the charity stripe.
Cristina Soriano picked up 11 points in the game.
Lisana Burnett added four points with team-highs of nine rebounds and two blocks, and matched Williams with four steals.
The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Jan. 17, when they host Community College of Rhode Island at the Monroe Athletics Complex. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level as of the fall 2017 season.
