BROOKLYN, N.Y., January 15, 2018 – Led by a huge game from
Bryan Assie, the Monroe College men's basketball team picked up a big victory on the road on Monday, defeating Region XV foe ASA College by a score of 77-74 at St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn. The Mustangs improve to 12-7 on the season with the win, while ASA falls to 8-5.
Assie turned in an impressive effort on Monday, picking up a double-double with season-highs of 27 points and 14 rebounds, while also adding a season-best three blocks. The Mustang offense revolved around Assie on Monday, as he attempted a season-high 18 field goals, making a season-best 11 of them.
Jhery Matos picked up 15 points in the win, while also providing three assists and three steals.
Thomas Binelli contributed 10 points, while
Nukoy Singleton added eight points and a team-high four assists.
The Mustangs get back to work on Thursday, Jan. 18, when they host Harcum College at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level as of the fall of 2017.
