No. 2 Monroe Men’s Soccer Starts New Winning Streak with Victory at Bunker Hill

BOSTON, Mass., September 26, 2017 – The No. 2 Monroe College men's soccer team put last week's draw in the rear view, as the Mustangs traveled to Boston on Tuesday and defeated Bunker Hill Community College, 5-0. Monroe improves to 8-0-1 on the year with the win, while Bunker Hill falls to 7-2.

The Mustangs got things going slowly, but took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Felipe Mendes, who scored off an assist from Lucas Nishioka. The Mustangs took that 1-0 lead into the half.

Monroe turned on the heat in the second frame, starting with George Asomani's score about 15 minutes into the half, which was assisted by Jorge Figueroa. Nearly 10 minutes later, Carlos Rodriguez made it a 3-0 game after being fed by Matues Candido. Shortly after, Asomani got on the board once again, and Ryan Smart later added one more to cap off the 5-0 win.

Goalkeeper Svyat Kozak improves to 5-0 with his fourth shutout of the 2017 campaign. Bunker Hill keeper Kevin Mesa yielded five goals to fall to 6-2.

The Mustangs will look to ride the momentum from Tuesday's win when they host Ulster County Community College on Saturday, Sept. 30 at City Park. The game is set to kick off under the lights of Skidelsky Field at 7 p.m.
