BEL AIR, Md., September 14, 2017 – The newly-top-ranked Monroe College men's soccer team backed up its No. 1 ranking on Thursday, shutting out Harford Community College, 5-0, at Harford Stadium for the Mustangs' third straight shutout. Monroe improves to a perfect 6-0, while Harford drops to 4-3-1.

Making his return, Lucas Nishioka reestablished himself as a force for the Mustangs, scoring in the 19th minute after a pass from Gabriel Machado to give Monroe an early 1-0 lead. 12 minutes later, Machado fed Abdul Mohammed with a corner kick that he redirected into the net to make it a 2-0 lead, which the Mustangs would take into the break.

Shortly after halftime, Carlos Rodriguez got on the board after being fed by Mohammed to put the Mustangs ahead by three. Later on, Rodriguez netted his second of the evening to push the lead to four. After drawing a penalty in the box, Osman Fofanah scored on a penalty kick in the 75th minute to pick up the Mustangs' fifth netter of the game.

Goalkeeper David de la Hera improved to 3-0 and earned his first shutout after making two stops in the win. Michael Nelson dropped to 3-3-1 for the Fighting Owls after giving up four goals and saving six shots.

Rodriguez scored twice in the win, his second multi-goal game of the season so far. Nishioka, Mohammed and Fofanah added the other scores for the Royal and Gold. Machado passed out a pair of assists, while Mohammed capped off a three-point day with an assist of his own.

Monroe fired off 30 shots in Thursday's contest, while Harford tried just 10. The Mustangs also had six corner kicks in the game, while Harford got just one.
