New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Monroe College Softball team ended its six-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep of Rowan College at Burlington County on Tuesday. The Mustangs took game one, 9-2, and won the second contest, 9-1.
Monroe started game one with a run in the first.
Taylor White and
Yeisy Cruz each singled.
Toni Harris brought in White with the third base hit of the inning. Rowan at Burlington evened the score with a run in the bottom of the first, and pulled ahead, 2-1, with a solo run in the fourth.
The Mustangs took the lead for good in the fifth.
Gabrielle Placencia singled, and Harris followed with a single.
Kylie Bitz brought them both home with a 2-RBI triple. Next,
Brooke Boechler drove in Bitz with a base hit. Later in the inning,
Jasmine Guerra made the score 5-2 with an RBI hit.
In the sixth, Harris doubled, scoring Cruz. Bitz homered, driving in Harris and bringing the score to 8-1. They got their ninth run in the seventh, when Kourtney Semper singled home
Selena Aguirre.
Brooke Kane went the distance, striking out eight, and improved to 7-3 on the season.
Game two went to Monroe, 9-1. White, Cruz, and Placencia each had three hits. Cruz drove in three, while Harris had a pair of RBI. Bitz got the win in the circle and is now 6-5 on the year. She allowed just one run and five hits.
The Monroe College Softball team is now 14-12 overall. They will return to action on Saturday, April 22nd, hosting Lackawanna for a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at noon.
