Softball Collects 20 Hits in DH Losses to Gloucester County

Monroe Drops Two, 12-4 & 12-8

New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Monroe College Softball team dropped a doubleheader to Rowan College at Gloucester County, 12-4 and 12-8, in their home opener on Saturday. Despite the losses, the Mustangs slugged 20 hits in the two games.
 
In game one, the Roadrunners jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the first inning. The Mustangs countered with three runs in their half of the inning. Brooke Boechler led off the game with a single and came in on a two-run homer to left field by Breanna Kuhner. Veronica Casanova reached on an error. She moved to second on a Toni Harris base hit, advanced to third when Crystal Estrada worked a walk, and came in to score on a Brianna Casiano sacrifice fly. The Mustangs pulled within 4-3 after an inning.
 
Rowan at Gloucester scored three times in the second inning to lead 7-3. Monroe responded with a run when Boechler reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch. The Roadrunners ended up with five more runs and won the game, 12-4, in five innings.
 
Monroe slugged 12 hits in game two en route to eight runs. Kuhner and Gabrielle Placencia each had three hits and scored three times. Placencia had a double and a triple as two of her hits. Taylor White also collected a pair of hits and reached home twice.
 
The Mustangs took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the first inning. Casanova drove in a pair with a double. The score stayed at 3-0 until the Roadrunners scored six times in the fourth.
 
Monroe tied the game at 6-6 with three runs in the fifth. White led off with a double. Placencia drove her in with another double. Kuhner singled, bringing in Placencia. Kuhner then stole second and got to third when the throw went into centerfield. Harris tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left that plated Kuhner. Gloucester went on to win, 12-8.
 
The Monroe College Softball team is now 5-5 on the year with the pair of losses. They will return to action on Sunday, March 26th, hosting CCRI in a doubleheader slated to begin at noon.
