BALTIMORE, Md., December 2, 2017 – After falling in its first contest of the Charm City Classic on Friday, the Monroe College women's basketball team responded with a hard-fought 71-67 victory over Chesapeake College Saturday afternoon at Baltimore City Community College. The Mustangs improve to 4-4 on the year with the win.
Cristina Soriano had a big game for the Mustangs, scoring a team-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Amani Williams totaled 15 points, seven boards, four assists and three steals. Samantha Hines contributed 13 points and eight rebounds.
Lisana Burnett filled up the stat sheet with five points, seven boards, five assists, two blocks and five steals. The Mustangs shot 43.5 percent (30-of-69) from the field in the win.
Monroe closes out its trip to the Charm City Classic on Sunday, Dec. 3, by taking on host Baltimore City in the tournament's final game. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
