Monroe Men’s Basketball Drops Final Tilt of Weekend to Allegany

HAGERSTOWN, Md., November 26, 2017 – The Monroe College men's basketball team closed out the Jim Brown Classic tournament, hosted by Hagerstown Community College, with a 98-88 defeat at the hands of Allegany College of Maryland on Sunday. The Mustangs fall to 4-3 on the young season with the loss.
 
Damont Kearse led the Mustangs with 19 points on the afternoon, adding four rebounds and a pair of assists. Isaiah Ward followed with 18 points and eight boards. Bryan Assie narrowly missed out on a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Jhery Matos added 13 points.
 
The Mustangs will host the Monroe College Invitational from Thursday, Nov. 30, to Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Monroe Athletic Complex. They will open against Harford Community College on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
