NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y, November 19, 2017 – The Monroe Mustangs JV men's basketball team fell to Army Preparatory Academy, 77-60, Sunday at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
 
Army Prep quickly jumped out to an early 8-0 lead behind red-hot three-point shooting from John Scully and never looked back, leading the Mustangs the entire way.
 
Monroe cut the deficit to just one with a 10-run midway through the first half, but the Black Knights closed the first half on a 28-8 run to take a 17-point, 45-28 lead into the break.
 
And in the second half, Monroe could never get the deficit under 17, as the Black Knights held leads as large as 26, eventually pulling away with a 77-60 victory.
 
Brian Kennedy led the Mustangs with 11 points, while Christopher Davis and Joans Gjeci added nine points apiece. Monroe shot just 32.9 percent from the field, and 15.4 percent from beyond the arc, while Army Prep shot 41.4 percent and 28.1 percent from three.
 
Scully led the Black Knights and all scorers with 25 points, including 7-of-13 three pointers, while Josh Caldwell and Ben Kinker each recorded double-doubles for Army Prep.
 
With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 4-3 on the season.
 
After Thanksgiving Break, the Mustangs head to Wayne, Pa. to take on Eastern University JV men's basketball on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. to kick-off a two-game weekend road trip.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
