Monroe Women’s Soccer Falls to ASA in Season Finale

BROOKLYN, N.Y., October 23, 2017 – The Monroe College women's soccer team visited Region XV foe No. 13 ASA College on Monday at Pier 5, in a game the Mustangs needed to win to keep their season going. Unfortunately, the Mustangs were unable to overcome a three-goal run for the Avengers, falling by a score of 3-1 in Monday's matchup. The Mustangs finish the 2017 campaign with a 7-5 record, while the Avengers remain undefeated and improve to 9-0.

ASA scored first in Monday's contest when Kaylane Alves Araujo netted a 26th-minute goal to put the Avengers ahead, 1-0. That score stuck until the second half, when Estelle Badoadana doubled the Avenger lead in the 51st minute. Reny Farfan then made it 3-0 at the 69:17 mark. Monroe's Kathleen Silva scored her first of the year in the 82nd minute to make it a 3-1 game, but the Mustangs were unable string a rally together.

Oriana Palacios stopped two shots in the game, but shouldered the loss to fall to 3-4 on the season. ASA keeper Leticia Sandoval made 10 saves and allowed one goal to earn the win.

The Mustangs outshot the Avengers, 22-6, while earning a 11-5 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks in the game were even at 6-6. Silva scored the lone goal for the Mustangs in the win, while Angie Ponce provided the assist. Ponce led Monroe with five shots in the game.
