New Rochelle, N.Y. – In the Mustangs' first match with Harcum College this season, the game required two overtimes to determine a winner. The rematch on Thursday went to Harcum in regulation, 73-58, but didn't lack for highlights.
Monroe used the first 6:06 of game time to build a 15-6 lead.
Dani Koljanin scored the first seven points for the Mustangs, ending with a three-pointer that put Monroe ahead, 7-6. From there, a three-point play from
Hampus Ahlin made the score 10-6.
Tyler Ancrum accounted for the final five points of the lead, courtesy of a trifecta, a steal, and a layup.
The Bears took control from there, scoring ten straight to take a one-point lead, 16-15, with 10:48 left. Monroe countered and went up by four on a
Clifton Tracey jumper at 9:22 that made the score 22-18. The Bears tied the game at 29-29 with 5:07 left. Harcum took control from there and led at the break, 41-34.
Both sides struggled offensively in the first two and a half minutes of the second half, combining for just three points. With 10:37 left, an Ahlin three-pointer pulled the Mustangs within four points at 52-48. From there, Harcum took control and went on to win, 73-58.
Koljanin led Monroe with 14 points. Ahlin scored a dozen, and Ancrum added 11. The Monroe College Men's Basketball team will return to action on Wednesday, February 1st, hosting Our Saviour Lutheran Post Grad School at 7:00 PM.
