Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Monroe College Men's Basketball team used a 46-point first-half output to reach a 78-58 victory over ASA College on Tuesday. Four Mustangs finished in double figures in scoring, led by
Tyler Ancrum with 15 points.
Felix Carlsson opened the scoring with a three-pointer. With 13:31 left in the quarter, Monroe led 15-13 and pushed the advantage to 18 points on a 16-0 run. The scoring spree occurred across 5:26 of game time, during which the Avengers were held off of the scoreboard. Ancrum,
Bryan Assie,
Jarron Chapman,
Hampus Ahlin, and
Will Martinez all scored in that stretch. The lead grew to 23 points when a
Dani Koljanin trifecta made the score 42-19 with 4:15 left. Monroe led at the break, 46-27.
ASA tried to come back in the second half, but the gap never got into single digits. The largest lead of the game for Monroe, 26 points, came when a
Clifton Tracey jumper at 3:37 made the score 78-52. The Mustangs prevailed, 78-58.
In the win, Ancrum totaled 15 points and 3 assists. Koljanin and Chapman finished with 11 points, while Assie shot 5-10 for 10 points.
Jeremy Betjol chipped in with six points and seven rebounds. Damont Kearse, Jr. saw his first action with the varsity squad after being promoted from the JV team. The team improved to 13-5 on the year with the win.
The Monroe College Men's Basketball team will return to action on Thursday, January 12
th, at 7:00 PM when they host Mercer County College.
