New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Monroe College volleyball team improved to 12-7 on the season with a three-set victory over Queensborough Community College on Tuesday. The set scores were 25-16, 26-24, and 25-21.
After Monroe took the opening set, 25-16, the Lady Tigers rallied. Trailing 17-14 late in the second set, Queensborough used a 7-0 run to take a 21-17 lead over the Mustangs. A kill from
Marissa Hackett ended the scoring drought. Later, down 23-19, Monroe got three points off a service error and two kills from
Cristen Coryatt to pull within 23-22.
Stephanie Rozek's strong serves helped key the run.
The Lady Tigers scored the next point to have command of the set, 24-22. However, Monroe answered with four straight points to take the set, 26-24. The points came on a pair of kills from
Brianna Chin, another from Coryatt, and a service ace from
Karen Souza.
The third set saw the Mustangs pull ahead, then Queensborough answer. Monroe never led by more than a handful of points, and finally put the match away when
Gabriella Nobrega set
Kathrin Pasel up for the final point.
The Monroe College volleyball team will return to action on Friday, October 7th, at the Catawba Valley Tournament in North Carolina.
