Monroe Football Off to Best Start in Program History After 38-0 Shutout of Valley Forge Military Academy

Mustangs Improve to 4-0 on the Season

Wayne, Pa. – The Monroe College football team is 4-0 to start the season for the first time in program history after a 38-0 shutout of Valley Forge Military Academy on Saturday. The Mustangs had no shortage of superb performances on both the offensive and defensive ends.

On the very first play from scrimmage for Monroe, Ryan Fulse scampered 59 yards for a touchdown. The sophomore reached 100 yards rushing in the game, making this the fourth-straight game that he has eclipsed the century mark on the ground.

Monroe pushed the lead to 14-0 thanks to a touchdown pass from Aaron Williams. The sophomore tossed a pair in the game; the first went 33 yards to Shea Holbrook, while the second was a 41-yard connection with Rakeem Langston. Williams also ran a touchdown in, meaning that he was involved in all three second-quarter touchdowns for the Mustangs. Monroe lead 28-0 at the half.

The second half saw the Mustangs put 10 additional points on the scoreboard, thanks to a touchdown run from Kahlil Lewin and a field goal from Jared Calhoun.

It was a stellar day on defense for the Mustangs as well. The defense limited the Spartans to 98 total yards and -7 in the rushing attack. They forced three turnovers and nearly returned a fumble for a touchdown. Daejon Weeks-Landy came down with the interception, and Kadeen Dryden picked up a fumble and ran 57 yards before being caught from behind at the 11-yard line. Monroe later scored because of that turnover.

Dryden also accounted for two of Monroe's seven sacks in the game. He finished with six tackles. Kamari Jones-Hunter added five. In fact, 26 different players contributed on defense.

The Monroe College football team will return to the gridiron on Saturday, October 1st, against ASA in Brooklyn. The kickoff is scheduled for noon.
