Warwick, R.I. – Monroe College sophomore
Bruna Tavarez netted her first hat trick of the season to help lead the Mustangs to a 10-0 victory against the Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick, Rhode Island on Saturday. The team has outscored its opponents 19-0 in the first two contests of the season.
The Mustangs scored a pair of goals within a few seconds of each other as
Elysa Virella found
Andrea Rodriguez for the game's first marker. Shortly thereafter, Monroe gained possession again, and this time
Brooke Smith played a ball to
Maia Williams for a goal. Williams has scored in both games this season.
Five minutes later, the score went to 3-0 when
Marta Turmo found
Gemma Pla for a goal. Pla has found the back of the net in both contests this season. From there, Tavarez would get her first two goals of the game in a matter of moments. She took a feed from Virella in the 24
th minute and beat the keeper to bring the score to 4-0. Two minutes later, the All-Region forward scored off a pass from Turmo.
Monroe led 5-0 just half an hour into the contest. Pla picked up her first assist of the game when she passed to
Gabrielle Pereira to make the score 6-0. In the 39
th minute, Williams scored her second goal of the game off a feed from
Melissa Gonzalez. The eighth goal came just before halftime, when Tavarez completed her hat trick on a pass from
Andrea Rodriguez.
The Mustangs scored twice more in the second half. Turmo connected with
Gema Fernandez to bring the score to 9-0.
Ui Nojima completed the scoring with an assist from Smith. Monroe went on to a 10-0 win.
The Monroe College women's soccer team will return to action on Tuesday, September 13th, hosting Brookdale Community College at 6:30 PM.
