Tony Hernandez Improves to 5-0 in 15-1 Win Against Globe Institute of Technology

Mustangs at 19-9 for the Season

New Rochelle, N.Y. – Southpaw Tony Hernandez kept his unblemished record intact with a 15-1 victory over Globe Institute of Technology on Monday at Westchester Community College. The pitcher threw six innings, allowing only three hits. Jose Sierra tossed a scoreless seventh inning.

Hernandez got much more help than he needed as Monroe slugged 14 hits, including three triples. Endy Villalona led the offensive onslaught with three hits and three runs scored. Ronald Jackson drove in three runs and scored twice.

Monroe got on the board in the first inning as they scored a run with two outs. Isaiah Torres walked and Cam Crabbe reached on a hit by pitch. From there, Villalona laced a single to right that brought in Torres for the game's first run.

The Mustangs pushed the lead to 3-0 with two runs in the second. John Russo doubled and homered on a pair of wild pitches. Alex De La Cruz walked, stole second and scored on an infield single from Ramger Iglesias.

Both teams scored a run in the third inning, bringing Monroe to a 4-1 lead. Monroe added two more runs in the fourth, maintaining a 6-1 advantage until the sixth, when the Mustangs scored four times.

After the first two batters made outs, Crabbe singled. Villalona doubled, putting runners on second and third. Lewis Gonzalez walked, but during his at-bat the Globe pitcher uncorked a wild pitch, scoring Crabbe. Jackson approached the plate with runners on the corners. The first baseman ripped a triple that plated both Villalona and Gonzalez and brought the score to 9-1. Russo and C.J. Moore both followed with walks, which loaded the bases for De La Cruz. The sophomore worked a walk, and Jackson scored the tenth run of the game for Monroe.

Now ahead 10-1, the Mustangs used a five-run seventh to put the game away. Torres led off with a triple. Michael Ramirez lifted an RBI double to left. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. From there, Villalona walked, stole second and ran to third on another wild pitch. Felix Restituyo, who pinch hit for Gonzalez, reached on a hit by pitch, and Jackson came up with two guys on base. The sophomore picked up his third RBI of the game with a single that scored Villalona. Restituyo came in later in the inning on a wild pitch, and Jackson was forced in on a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Monroe led 15-1.

Sierra held the Knights scoreless in the seventh, securing Monroe's victory via the ten-run rule. The team is now 19-8 on the season. They will return to action on Tuesday, April 12, when they face Westchester Community College in Valhalla at 3:30 PM.
