New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Monroe College softball team went 2-2 over the weekend in a pair of doubleheaders played in New Jersey. They won both games against Gloucester County in Sewell on Friday, but dropped their matches against Mercer County in Trenton on Saturday. Following those games, the team's record stood at 6-8.
Monroe beat Gloucester 11-5 in the first match and 1-0 in the second. In the opener, a five-run-fourth-inning keyed the win.
Gabrielle Placencia had three hits and drove in a pair, while
Yalitza Rodriguez homered, with two RBIs.
Chayne Dauo knocked in a team-best of three runs in the game.
Tara Sasso tossed a complete game, earning her first win of the season.
Carly Coleman toss a four-hit shutout in the second game against Gloucester.
Toni Harris led the offensive charge with a pair of hits, including a double. The only run of the game came in the third, when Harris reached on her two-bagger and
Cassidy Wootten drove her in with an RBI single.
Later in the weekend, Monroe lost both games of the double-header against Mercer County, 14-6 in the first game and 6-5 in the second. In the 14-6 setback, Dauo had a pair of hits, scored twice and connected on a homer.
Maranda Diaz drove in a couple as well.
The 6-5 defeat saw the Mustangs jump out to a 5-1 lead before losing. Rodriguez had a pair of hits and scored twice, and Dauo drove in a couple. Wootten suffered the loss in the circle.
