New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Monroe College Men's Basketball team came from behind to post an 83-75 victory over Erie Community College on Sunday. Four Mustangs reached double figures in scoring, led by
Dani Koljanin with 19 points.
The game was back-and-forth early on, with neither side gaining a lead larger than a basket or two. Finally, midway through the half, Erie took control and pushed the advantage to a dozen points, 31-19. From there, Monroe used 2:28 of game time to go on a 10-0 run and pull within 31-29.
Tyler Ancrum got a three-point play.
Clifton Tracey and Koljanin each had a basket, and
Felix Carlsson capped the scoring with a three-pointer. The Kats held onto the lead for the rest of the half and led at the break, 44-39.
Monroe opened the second half with an 8-0 run to take a 47-44 lead. Ancrum, Koljanin,
Hampus Ahlin, and
Bryan Assie each accounted for a bucket in the scoring spree. The Mustangs methodically pulled away from Erie, and led by as much as ten points after Assie sank a foul shot and brought the score to 66-56 with 9:04 remaining. Monroe maintained the lead for the rest of the game and won, 83-75.
Ancrum earned 16 points in the game on 5-9 shooting. Carlsson contributed 13 points, while Assie totaled 11 points and three blocks. The team is now 9-5 on the season.
The Monroe College Men's Basketball team will return to action on Friday, December 16th, against Gulf Coast Community College as part of a three-game Florida road trip. The tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
