New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Monroe College Women's Soccer team moved to 5-0-2 for the season following Monday's 4-0 victory over Essex County College. The game was originally scheduled for last weekend, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
Monroe's sophomores were the standouts in this game, accounting for three of the four goals.
Brooke Smith got the scoring started with an unassisted marker within the first 15 minutes. With help from
Marta Turmo,
Andrea Rodriguez then brought the score to 2-0 after finding the back of the net.
The game stayed at 2-0 until
Gabrielle Pereira connected with Elysa Virela just three minutes into the second half to score the Mustang's third goal. Virela then scored her second marker of the match, thanks to an assist from
Maia Williams. The final score was 4-0, giving the Mustangs their third consecutive win and shutout.
Overall, Monroe outshot Essex County 27-0 and took five corner kicks.
The Monroe College Women's Soccer team plays in Maryland against CCBC Essex on Thursday, October 13, at 6:00 PM.
