Warwick, R.I. - The Monroe College men's basketball team saw its two game winning streak come to an abrupt close on Saturday with a 75-69 loss to Genesee one the first day of the CCRI Invitational in Warwick, Rhode Island.
Shackquiel Scott led Monroe with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Monroe trailed by five early on until a three-pointer from
Lukas Landgren tied the score at 7-7 with 14:10 left. Genesee retook the lead and built the cushion back to seven points. The Mustangs eventually evened the score, this time at 24-all, when
Ran Tut scored two of his team-best 15 points, with 5:16 left. Following a turnover,
Hampus Ahlin buried a three-pointer and Monroe had its first lead of the game at 27-24. Genesee led at the break, 33-30.
Monroe trailed by as many as twelve points in the second half, but a
Tyler Ancrum layup with 9:28 pulled the Mustangs back within two points. Monroe got no closer and lost 75-69.
Lawahn Lewis finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. They face CCRI in Warwick on Sunday.
