Bryn Mawr, Pa. – The Monroe College women's basketball team had three players reach double-figures in scoring in a 76-68 loss to Harcum College in suburban Philadelphia on Thursday.
Breanna Dennis scored a season best, 20 points, while
Gabrielle Jubinville finished just behind her with 18 points, and
Destini Green nearly posted a double-double, totaling 17 points and nine assists. The team is now 4-13 on the season.
Monroe got off to a fast start, leading 25-19 after the first quarter. The Mustangs took a 6-0 lead on baskets from
Fatoumata Coulibaly, Green and
Camilla Kilinc. Harcum rallied to regain the lead, but Monroe countered again and eventually point an eight-point cushion, 23-15, when Kilinc found Dennis behind the three-point line.
The Mustangs pushed the lead back to eight points at two different. The Bears rallied in the second quarter to erase the gap and made a late basket to lead by one point at the halftime, 40-39.
Harcum maintained the advantage through the third quarter, getting a lead as much as seven points. A late basket by Jubinville reduced the deficit to four-points, 58-54.
Jubinville rallied to score the next two baskets and Monroe tied the score at 58-all early in the fourth quarter. A free throw from Green put the Mustangs ahead, 59-58, with eight minutes left. Harcum regained the lead but another Jubinville basket put Monroe ahead again with 4:39 left. The Bears took control of the contest and went on to win, 76-68.
The Monroe College women's basketball team returns to action Saturday, January 16, when they host Jamestown Community College in the opening round of the Monroe Invitational. The game is slated to begin at 3:00 PM.
