Frederick, Md. – The Monroe College women's basketball team used a career day from sophomore
Gabrielle Jubinville to earn a 79-52 win over Frederick Community College in a game played in Frederick, Maryland on Friday. The Edmonton, Alberta, product finished with 43 points and 22 rebounds in the game.
It was a back-and-forth fisdt quarter, with the score eventually tied at 12-12 with 2:14 on the clock. From there, Monroe led 17-15 as
Camilla Kilinc nailed a three-pointer and
Destini Green added a basket.
The lead reached double-digits for the Mustangs with 4:08 left in the second when Jubinville sunk a layup to make the score 31-22. The halftime score would be 34-28 for Monroe.
Monroe really pushed the advantage in the third quarter, turning a six-point lead into a 24-point advantage in just ten minutes of play. The lead grew to 12 when Jubinville sank a three-pointer at the 6:36 mark. It became 18 when Green made a layup to bring the score to 54-35 with 1:45 left. Finally, the cushion went to 24 points courtesy of a Jubinville layup in the closing seconds.
The game was out of reach for Frederick as the fourth quarter began. The lead swelled to a game-high 30 points when Jubinville connected on a hoop with 2:46 left to make the score 77-47. Monroe went on to win 79-52.
Jubinville shot 17-26 en route to 43 points. She grabbed 22 rebounds. Kilinc finished with a dozen points and six assists. Shantel Butler earned her first start and pulled down 15 rebounds.
