Perrysburg, Ohio – The Monroe College volleyball team closed out the Owens Community College Tournament with a pair of wins, beating Wallace State 3-2 and blanking South Suburban, 3-0. The team is now 9-0 on the season.
Against the Lions, head coach Nephtali Delgado-Reyes was really impressed with his team's play. "We played our best against Wallace. We should heart and determination. The rallies were long, and the sets were back-and-forth, but we found a way to win." He continued, "I'm proud of my team. The players worked very hard. I was happy with the play of
Ashley Ramos,
Barbara Maximiano, and
Cristen Coryatt, along with
Indira Rojas and
Nautica Vega."
The Mustangs won the match over South Suburban, 25-13, 25-11 and 25-16. Set one saw the Mustangs jump out to a 14-5 lead. They went on to beat the Bulldogs, 25-13. Set two saw Monroe go up 17-7. They closed out the set with an 8-4 run and won 25-11. The third set went to them, 25-16.
Overall, Monroe was 6-0 in the tournament. They have participated in the showcase since 2012 and this marks the first team they finished it with an unblemished record. The team is now 9-0 on the season. They open up the home portion of their schedule on Thursday, September 17, when they host Queensboro at 7:00 PM.
