Cheyenne, Wyo. - The Monroe College women's soccer team evened its record at 1-1 with a 1-0, double-overtime win over Utah Eastern from Cheyenne, Wyoming on Friday.
Aline Delima had the game's lone goal and Jordan Wainright logged all 120 minutes to earn the clean sheet. The Mustangs defense limited Utah Eastern to just three shots, no of which went on target.
In a defensive game, scoring chances were hard to come by for both sides, the Mustangs had a golden opportunity at the 8:32 mark. Forward
Maia Williams flicked a shot on net that hit the post and caromed away to safety, keeping the game level at 0-0. In the 24th minute, Delima took a shot on goal that the keeper was forced to make a save on. At the half-hour mark, the Mustangs nearly scored again.
Gabriela Braga shot the ball and Utah Eastern keeper, Jordan Goyeau, parryed the shot but couldn't clear it. Williams came down with the ball and blasted a shot that hit the post again, keeping the game scoreless. Williams just missed a pair of goals.
Just past the hour mark,
Bruna Tavarez had a go at goal and Goyeau was forced to make another save. The game ended regulation in a scoreless draw. Neither side had any scoring opportunities in the first overtime, and Delima found the back at the 1:16:07 mark of the game to give Monroe the 1-0 win. Braga and Delima took three shots in the game, while Williams attempted a couple. Tavarez and Nicola Rivera each had a shot.
The Monroe College women's soccer team returns to action on Sunday, September 13 when they face Larame Community College at 1:00 PM Eastern time.
