On Wednesday, May 13th, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the recipients of its inaugural Region Athletes and Coaches of the Year awards. These honors recognize those who, as voted by NJCAA coaches, have demonstrated excellence throughout the 2015 outdoor track and field season — and there was one name that undoubtedly stood out to loyal Monroe Mustangs fans.
Head track & field coach
Lesleigh Hogg, in his first year as Monroe's head coach, was named the Atlantic Region Men's Head Coach of the Year. This deserved award came just days before he led 23 student athletes to the 2015 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship, which ranked in the top ten under his exceptional leadership and yielded gold medals for the men's 4x800m relay team.
This latest recognition marks the third accolade that the track and field program has attracted in 2015. Earlier this year, Monroe's
Shirvon Greene was named the Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year in both the men's and women's categories. Meanwhile, two-time national champion
Ronaldo Ball earned the designation of Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Male Athlete of the year.
Congratulations to Coach Hogg, and to the entire track and field team that has helped to make 2015 a season to remember!
