Ewing, N.J. – The Monroe College men's track and field team continued its outdoor season with a strong showing at the TCNJ Invitational in Ewing, New Jersey this weekend. The Mustangs' throwers were the story of the day due to their notable performances despite less than ideal weather conditions.
Monroe earned a pair of victories in field events, beginning with the long jump, where
Kamar Harris leapt a personal best of 6.63 meters to win the event.
Brendon Perez was third in the long jump (6.49 M) and placed fourth in the triple jump (13.32 M).
David Satchell was the other winner for Monroe, beating the field in the shotput with a throw of 14.51 meters, a personal best. He also came in third in the discus, hurling the disc 37.73 meters.
On the track,
Qasim Ray was a standout performer, winning the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best and nationals qualifying time of 15.41. Other winners included
Tevin Aitken in the 800 meters (2:02.10),
Sidgie Greene in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:10.40), and
Kipkoech Collins, who set a season best and personal record with a time of 4:13.50 in the 1500 meters. Both
Christian Patterson (3) and
Adrian Sheriff (4) placed in the top-five in the 400-meters. Patterson came in at 50.41 and Sheriff crossed in 50.43.
The Monroe College track and field team will return to action on Friday, April 15, when they travel to Hampton, Virginia to compete in the Hampton Relays.
