On the heels of sophomore
Breana Bey's 23-point game and some strong contributions from other key players, the Monroe Mustangs women's basketball team defeated Dean College 75-69 this past Saturday. The victory improves Monroe's record to 7-3 on the season. They're currently on a five-game win streak.
"Breana had a fine game," said Coach James Robinson, Jr. "She was a very good player in her freshman year, but worked all summer to improve so many aspects of her game that now she's on the way to being a great player."
The 5'8" forward from Jersey City was 10/14 from the field against the Bulldogs and hauled in six rebounds.
A few other Mustangs were vital to the win in Franklin, MA. Sophomore
Olivia Colbert had ten rebounds, sophomore
Karen Bellamy notched 13 points, freshman
Shania Johnson had 12, and freshman Tronqua Black dished for five assists.
"For us to be successful, it's going to take a team effort," Coach Robinson said, "and while the top of the box score has Breana's points, we don't win unless all of our players bring their work pail and do the job. We got that kind of performance this weekend and this sort of team effort is what we're looking for each time out."
