After
two home losses to open their season last weekend, the Monroe Mustangs couldn't afford to drop any more games at the MAC, certainly this early in the season. And so in the
2014 Monroe Invitational on Saturday, Monroe made sure to pull out a
72-68 win against Harford CC and on Sunday, played a more complete effort and defeated Hagerstown,
59-41. Their season record is now even at 2-2.
"I thought we were better on Sunday," said Coach
Jeff Brustad. "We hadn't been playing anywhere near what we are capable of and I thought we had a glimpse of what we can do. There's still a lot of hard work ahead of us."
Most significantly in the game against the Hawks, was the play of Australian freshman
Ran Tut. Big things are expected of the 6'9" forward and until Sunday's game, he hadn't shown much. But he seemed determined to right his own ship – and his team's in the process – and he exerted himself to a 19-point performance on a cool 9/11 shooting. He also pulled down four rebounds.
The 2014-15 Monroe Mustangs basektball media guide is on sale at the MAC during games ($3.00) and comes free with paid admission ($5.00).
