Nephtali Delgado Reyes

Head Coach Nephtali Delgado Reyes enters his 16th season leading the Monroe University women’s volleyball program as the Mustangs prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.

Delgado Reyes joined Monroe University in 2011 and immediately elevated the program to national prominence while playing a pivotal role in the Mustangs’ successful transition from NJCAA Division II to Division I competition.

Entering the 2026 season, Delgado Reyes owns a remarkable 408-119 (.774) career record. Under his leadership, Monroe has captured 12 Region championships, 11 District championships, and earned eight appearances at the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament, including a ninth-place finish in 2013 and a run of five consecutive national tournament appearances from 2016 to 2021 (with no championship tournament held in 2020). He also reached the milestone of 400 career victories during the 2025 season.

The Mustangs have consistently been among the nation’s elite under Delgado Reyes, posting 30 or more wins in seven seasons, including 36 victories in 2022 and 35 wins in 2025. Monroe finished 36-8 in 2022, 21-11 in 2023, 24-6 in 2024, and 35-8 in 2025, continuing the program’s tradition of national success.

His accomplishments have earned him seven NJCAA District Coach of the Year honors (2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021) along with two AVCA Two-Year College Northeast/Southeast Region Coach of the Year awards. Delgado Reyes has also guided Monroe to multiple Region Sportsmanship Awards, while the Mustangs received the NJCAA National Tournament Coaches Association Sportsmanship Award in both 2016 and 2018.

Coach Delgado Reyes also puts significant effort to guiding his students so that 100% of them graduate and ultimately assist them so that they can move on from Monroe with scholarships at the next level. During his tenure, six of his teams earned NJCAA Academic Honorable Mention Awards (2012-13, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20). The Mustangs have also earned five straight AVCA Team Academic Awards (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20).

As for the young women he coaches, Delgado Reyes has seen one – Hazel Ortiz-Rosado- earn a spot on the 2013 NJCAA Championship All-Tournament Team.  From there, Ortiz-Rosado became the first Monroe volleyball graduate to play that sport professionally. Eight of his student-athletes have earned All-American status and more than 60 of his student-athletes have moved on to four-year colleges following their time at Monroe.
