Jimmy Ascencio joins the Monroe University Cross Country and Track & Field staff ahead of the 2025 season. He will serve as assistant coach as well as the strength and conditioning coach, team recruiter, and equipment manager.

Ascencio was an all-conference selection during the 2022-23 season while attending Manhattanville University. He is the former school record holder in the 600m as well as on the all-time school record list in the 400m and 800m.  

His expertise on the track translated well to a decorated coaching career in such a short time. After graduating from Manhattanville, Ascencio kick started his coaching career with the Valiants in 2023 with the women's cross country team earning its highest placement in program history as well as a member of the team earning First Team All-Conference. 

In 2024, Ascencio garnered the highest placement in program history with the men's cross country team. Flipping to the track season, at the Skyline Conference Championships, Ascencio guided Orquidea Briceno to a Bronze Medal in the women's 800m and 1500m and Joey DeMilio to a Silver Medal in the 3000m steeplechase. The following year, Jennifer Oliveros achieved a Bronze Medal in the 800m and 5000m. On the men's side, the third year coach led DeMilio to a Gold Medalist spot in the men's 800m and 1500m. 

Before departing Manhattanville for Monroe, Ascencio made his mark with the program by recruiting the university's highest recruiting class for 2025-26 since 2018. He coached 14 athletes in the top-ten all-time at Manhattanville in multiple events, ranging from the 400m to the 5000m.

Ascencio graduated with his Bachelor's in Sports Studies at Manhattanville University, eventually earning his Master's in Sports Management with the Valiants. He also has certifications as a USATF Level 1 Certified Coach and USA Weighlifting Level 1 Certified Coach.
