Carlos Ortega joins the Monroe College Mustangs soccer programs as the teams' goalkeepers coach for the 2021 season. Ortega is a former member of the Monroe Mustangs men's soccer program.
Ortega serves as an assistant coach for the Mustangs men's and women's soccer teams, specializing in working with the team's goalies. Ortega was a goalkeeper for the Mustangs men's soccer team back in 2016. He later continued his collegiate career at NCAA Division II Post University in Waterbury, Conn.Â
Ortega also continues to work with the Monroe College Express men's soccer team as an assistant coach, where he began during the 2020-21 campaign. Ortega's efforts helped steer the Express to their first-ever national ranking, Region 15 Championship, Northeast District Title and the team's first appearance in the NJCAA Div. III Championship Tournamentin 2020-21.Â
After finishing his collegiate career, Ortega went on to play semi-professional soccer with ASD Cesano in Rome, Italy, while also studying for his master's degree overseas.Â
