Princeton, NJ – The Monroe University women's outdoor track and field team closed out the regular season at the Larry Ellis Invitational this weekend.
Sophomore
Attoya Harvey ran the elite section of the 800m on Friday evening, running an outdoor personal-best time of 2:13.84. She returned early the next day to run in the 1500m and ran a time of 4:51.09. Freshman
Tanesia Gardiner ran in the same events, clocking in at 2:18.42 in the 800m and 5:04.00 in the 1800m, a personal-best for her.
Sophomore
Kettia Ambrose placed fifth overall in the 400m with a time of 55.16. She later ran the 200m and placed seventh overall, clocking in at 24.66, which narrowly missed national qualification.
Freshman
Kaliyah Jones had a good day on the track as well, running the 400m with a time of 57.18. Sophomore
Julihanna Johnson was the next Mustang to cross the finish line with the 400m, securing a personal-best time of 1:04.91.
Rounding out the Mustang competitors, freshman
Brinel Thomas ran the sprint double of the 100m and 200m. She ran a time of 12.36 in the 100m and a personal-best time of 24.84 in the 200m, narrowly missing national qualification.
The Mustangs will spend the next week and a half preparing for the NJCAA Outdoor National Championships, which will span from Thursday, May 15, to Saturday, May 17.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
