Women's Outdoor Track And Field Competes In First Sprints Medley Relay At Penn Relays

Philadelphia, PA – The Monroe University women's outdoor track and field team competed at the prestigious Penn Relays this weekend, with the sprints medley relay team making history as the first Mustang competitors to compete in the event.
 
The quartet of freshmen Brinel Thomas, Kaliyah Jones and Tanesia Gardiner, and sophomore Attoya Harvey finished with a time of 4:09.62 in the race, marking the first finish in the event at the Penn Relays in program history.
 
Thomas led off the relay before handing it off to Jones. Both athletes ran the 200m leg before Harvey sped through the 400m leg. The anchor leg of 800m was run by Gardiner to round of the historic performance.
 
The Mustangs have one more regular season meet before heading to Hutchinson, KS. Next weekend their final tune up will be in the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
