Women's Outdoor Track And Field Competes At Morgan State Legacy

Baltimore, MD – The Monroe University women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Morgan State Legacy this weekend to mark the halfway point of the season.
 
Freshman Kaliyah Jones kicked off the weekend with her first ever collegiate 100m dash, running a time of 12.73. She later returned to compete in the 200m dash, running a collegiate-best time of 25.36.
 
Fellow freshman Tanesia Gardiner also doubled on the day, with her first event being the 1500m. She also ran a collegiate-best time of 5:08.29 before placing sixth overall in the 5000m with a personal best time of 20:26.36.
 
A third double of the day came from sophomore Julihanna Johnson as she competed in the 400m and 200m. In the 400m, Johnson ran a season-best time of 1:05.05 before returning to compete in the 200m with a time of 28.32.
 
To round out the Mustang competitors, freshman Brinel Thomas ran a time of 12.39 in the 100m and later registered a jump of 5.22m in the long jump.
 
The Mustangs will next compete in the prestigious Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, PA. The three-day meet will begin on Thursday.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
