Keyser, WV – The Monroe University softball team suffered two losses on Sunday to Potomac State College. Both contests ended prior to the regularly scheduled seven innings, with the Mustangs losing 12-4 in six in game one before falling 16-7 in five in game two.
The weekend saw Monroe drop all four games to the Catamounts, but game one on Sunday saw the visitors take a 1-0 lead early off a sacrifice fly from sophomore
Nathalie Mongrain.
A four-run second was quickly rebutted by the Mustangs as freshman
Reese Surratt tripled to open the scoring. Mongrain then singled in Surratt to make it a 4-3 game.
But the Catamounts kept on hitting as a fourth inning home run from freshman
Antreece Coleman wasn't enough to curtail the offensive explosion from the home team.
That offensive display continued in game two as the Catamounts hung 16 runs on the Mustangs.
Monroe once again took an early lead as Surratt scored on a passed ball, but Potomac State rallied afterwards. The Mustangs had as many hits as Potomac State, with Surratt, freshman
Yarializ Maldonado, and sophomores
Brianna Talley,
Maricela Colon and
Gabrielle Gonzalez tallying multiple hits.
The Mustangs will regroup before heading to Virginia on Friday, March 28, to take on Chesapeake College in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
