Rochester, NY – The No. 20 Monroe University men's soccer team fell to No. 19 Monroe Community College, 2-1, in the East District Tournament semi-finals on Saturday.
The Mustangs opened the scoring on a 35
th minute goal from sophomore
Carmelo Bello, but the Tribunes responded a few minutes later as the game went to the half tied, 1-1. Devastation for the Mustangs struck in the 75
th minute as Monroe CC took a lead it would not relinquish.

Peterson Aquino threatened all game, combining for five shots on goal. But the Tribunes mustered six saves on the day, only allowing Bello's first half score. Sophomore

Overall, Monroe outshot the Tribunes, 8-7. On goal, the Mustangs led, 7-2.
Monroe will now await its fate in earning an at-large bid to the NJCAA national tournament. The selection show will be on Tuesday, November 11, at 6:00 pm.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
