Men's Cross Country Closes Out Regular Season with Second Place Finish at LVC Last Chance Fast Run

Lebanon, PA – The Monroe University men's cross country team closed out its regular season strong with a second place finish at the LVC Last Chance Fast Run on Friday, clocking a season-best team average of 28:53.54.
 
Sophomore Nkanyezi Ziqubu led the way for the Mustangs, placing first overall against top NCAA Division I teams in the area. He ran a time of 25:31.00, helping secure his third victory of the season in four attempts.
 
Freshmen Boitshepo Mashilo and Yassine Rahoui were the next two to finish. Mashilo (26:51.00) placed third and Rahoui — who ran a personal-best time of 27:03.00 — placed fourth. Freshman Jazir Harris also earned a personal-best time, clocking in at 32:20.00.
 
Freshman Modou Sanneh rounded out the race for Monroe with a time of 32:41.20.
 
"This is the momentum we wanted to have to close out the season," head coach Shirvon Greene said. "It was a great day for us today and I am happy with each of their performances. We will use these next couple of days to rest up and prepare for the national championships."
 
The Mustangs will have two weeks to prepare for the NJCAA Cross County Championships, which will take place on Saturday, November 8, in Fort Dodge, IA. Hosted by Iowa Central Community College, the championship meet is set to begin at 11:00 am. 
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
