BEL AIR, Md., September 28, 2024 – Taking on its first East District opponent of the season, the No. 16-ranked Monroe University Mustangs men's soccer team blanked Harford Community College, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Maryland. The Mustangs improve to 3-2 overall with the win, while the Fighting Owls fall to 7-3-1.
After a scoreless first half, Monroe's
Alejandro Silvestrini broke the tie with the match's only goal. He scored in the 56th minute of the game, providing the winner for the Mustangs in a gritty road victory.
Alvaro Ramos earned the shutout with three saves in net to improve to 3-2 on the season. Harford's Archie Bennett made six saves, but allowed the game's only goal to take the loss.
The Mustangs outshot the Fighting Owls, 18-14, in the win, with a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Harford earned seven corner kicks in the game, while the Mustangs had just three.
The Mustangs will look to cap off the weekend with another big victory when they head over to Rockville, Md., to take on No. 17 Montgomery College on Sunday, Sept. 29. Sunday's matchup is set to begin at 6 p.m.
