GAINESVILLE, Fla., February 29, 2024 – The Monroe College Mustangs track and field teams are set to compete on the national stage once again. The Mustangs are in Gainesville, Fla., for the 2024 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center from Friday, March 1, through Saturday, March 2.

MONROE AT THE 2023 NJCAA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Last year, the Monroe Mustangs men finished 10th out of 32 teams, while the women took 19th out of 33 teams at the 2023 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Topeka, Kan.

On the men's side, Day 1 of the meet saw
Karim Belmahdi take third place in the 3,000-meter run. Before that, he was part of Monroe's distance medley relay team that also earned a third-place finish. On Day 2, the men's 4x800 relay team set a new program record time of 7:39.13 to take second place in the event. Belmahdi also earned another podium finish in the mile run, while
Prince Mcabelo reached the podium in the 1,000-meter run.

Day 1 last year saw the women's distance medley relay team earn a spot on the podium with a third-place finish. On Day 2,
Kayla Johnson and
Alyssa Dyett both reached the podium as well. Johnson finished sixth overall in the finals of the 800-meter run, while Dyett took eighth place in the triple jump.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
