Conshohocken, PA – The No. 14 Monroe University men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to No. 10 Harcum College in East District semi-finals on Saturday evening at the Proving Grounds.
Both teams went punch for punch for over 90 minutes until Harcum scored the game-winning goal in the 100th minute to secure a second victory against the two-time defending national champions in 2024.
It took a bit for each team to get going, but sophomore
Hayato Otaka put the Mustangs on the board first with a 38th minute goal on a penalty kick. Harcum later tied the game up to close out the half.
Then, in the 49th minute, freshman
Jin Yamamoto made it 2-1 off of the assist from freshman
Harumi Yunaiyama. But once again, the higher seed responded not too long after in the 60th minute.
A back-and-forth affair led to sudden death overtime, with the Bears securing a spot in the final on a left-footed shot that went just past the outstretch arms of sophomore
Alvaro Ramos.
All in all, Otaka and Yamamoto led the way with four and three shots, respectively. Ramos tallied four saves in the loss.
