NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 15, 2023 – The No. 1-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team is still yet to allow a goal this season, as the Mustangs picked up a 2-0 victory over Lake Tahoe Community College on Friday at Skidelsky Field. The Mustangs improve to 5-0 on the season with the win, expanding their goal differential to 26-0 for the year in the process.

Alejandro Silvestrini broke the scoreless tie in the 18th minute of Friday's match. After playing it into the box himself, the ball was tipped up into the air by a Lake Tahoe defender, but Silvestrini was able to get around him and reach the ball before the keeper, allowing him to chip it around the goalie and into the net for put the Mustangs on top, 1-0. Both teams limited each other's chances for most of the half, sending the game to the break with the same 1-0 score.

After a defensive struggle since Monroe's first goal, the Mustangs finally broke through again in the 80th minute.
Rodrigo Bacci Pereira Meira Arruda took a free kick from 30 yards out near the far sideline and placed it right in front of the net, where
Henrique Lobato deflected it past the keeper and into the goal to double Monroe's lead at 2-0 with just 10 minutes to play, eventually leading to Monroe's two-goal victory.

Alvaro Ramos got the start on Friday and picked up the win in goal after a scoreless first half. Carson Gyll took the loss for Lake Tahoe after giving up two goals with four saves.

The Mustangs held a 9-1 advantage in shots in the game, including all six of the shots on goal in the contest, as the Mustang back line kept the Coyotes away from the net for the entire 90 minutes. The Mustangs also had a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.

Monroe's next match is a big one, as they take a trip this Tuesday, Sept. 19, down to Bryn Mawr, Pa., to take on East District foe Harcum College. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
