Monroe Mustangs Men’s Soccer Looks to Return to Prominence in 2022

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., August 19, 2022 – Boasting depth unseen since the 2019 season, at the conclusion of which the Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team won the NJCAA Championship, the Mustangs have their sights set on getting back to the national stage and making an impact when they get there. The journey begins on Sunday, Aug. 21, when they visit Harcum College at the Haverford Reserve Grass Fields in Haverford, Pa.
 
After Sunday's season opener against their District foes, the Mustangs will take a trip down to Lancaster, S.C. to play a pair of matches against South Carolina opponents. First, they challenge USC Sumter on Friday, Aug. 26. They will then take on host USC Lancaster on Sunday, Aug. 28.
 
The Mustangs follow up the South Carolina trip with a closer trip down to Maryland for the Montgomery College Tournament. They will play host, and No. 16-ranked Montgomery on Friday, Sept. 2, before facing off with CCBC Essex on Sunday, Sept. 4.
 
Monroe will play its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 10, when they host Atlantis University in an exhibition at Skidelsky Field at 7 p.m. The Mustangs will then host their first regular-season home match on Wednesday, Sept. 14, when Essex County College visits New Rochelle for another 7 p.m. matchup.
 
Monroe takes to the road for its next five matchups after the short homestand. Tuesday, Sept. 20 begins a mid-week Florida trip, when the Mustangs visits No. 19 Eastern Florida State College. A challenging week continues on Thursday, Sept. 22, when the Mustangs go up against No. 7 Daytona State College.
 
The trips get a little shorter for the next couple weeks. Monroe visits Mercer County Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 28, in West Windsor Township, N.J. The Mustangs follow that up on Sunday, Oct. 2, with a trip to Frederick Community College. They then head upstate to Rochester for a matchup with Monroe Community College.
 
The Mustangs wrap up the regular season with four straight contests at home. The first is Monroe's only Region 15 matchup of the season against ASA College on Monday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. They will then host Lancaster Elite the next evening at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, will see the Mustangs welcome Mercer County to New Rochelle at 4 p.m. Monroe's final regular-season home game will take place on Monday, Oct. 17, against Bergen Community College at 7 p.m.
 
The Region Championship is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 23. Should the Mustangs advance, the District Semifinals will tentatively be played on Sunday, Oct. 30, while the final is tentatively set for Sunday, Nov. 6. The 2022 NJCAA Div. I Men's Soccer Championship will be hosted in Melbourne, Fla., at Orlando Health Stadium from Nov. 13-19.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
