WEST WINDSOR, N.J., September 10, 2021 – The No. 14-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team made it back-to-back shutouts when the Mustangs defeated Mercer County Community College, 6-0, Friday evening on Mercer County's home turf. The Mustangs improve to 2-1 on the season with the win, while the Vikings fall to 1-2.
Isaac Garro Coto got the scoring started when he netted one in the eighth minute off an assist by
Mauricio De Santiago.
Nils Friebe then made it 2-0 at 14' after
Ivan Silic set him up for a score.
After the half,
Tony Yeboah scored on a penalty kick at 50' to push the lead to three. Silic then got on the board off a feed from
Liam Murray at 60' to go up by four. Murray then scored twice himself, potting one off an assist by Friebe at 70' before adding one more from
Luis Naranjo at 81'.
Tomaso Lorenzi got the start and made two saves in the first half to earn the win and improve to 2-0.
Mathew Nikolovski took over in the second half and kept the Vikings off the board with a save.
The Mustangs hit the road once again on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they visit CCBC Essex, the No. 1-ranked team in NJCAA Div. II. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 39 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 18 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
