KEYSER, W.V., October 8, 2021 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's volleyball team began yet another road trip on Friday, defeating the College of Southern Maryland in three sets (25-6, 25-9, 25-17) at WVU Potomac State College, where they will play two more matches on Saturday. The Mustangs improve to 24-4 overall with the win, while Southern Maryland drops to 2-6.
The Mustangs spread the wealth in a quick match on Friday, with five different student-athletes registering five or more kills.
Yaliancis Flores led the way with seven kills, hitting .455 in the win.
Alisha Callender hit .400 with six kills, adding 15 assists, five aces, a block and four digs.
Tereza Strnadlova also had six kills and hit .385.
Alondra Ramos and
Valeria Trinidad each had five kills in Friday's victory. Trinidad added a team-high three blocks as well.
Lyanis Rios led Monroe with 19 assists in the match.
Laura Paniagua picked up a team-high 12 digs. Paniagua and
Masoomeh Angooti each recorded a pair of service aces, while Angooti finished second on the team with seven digs.
The Mustangs will wrap up this weekend's trip on Saturday, Oct. 9, when they compete in a tri-match at Potomac State. Monroe opens up against Montgomery College at 1 p.m. before taking on host Potomac State at 3 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 39 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 18 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
