LA PLUME, Pa., April 2, 2019 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV baseball team dropped a 12-1 decision at Keystone College JV Tuesday afternoon. The Mustangs fall to 3-9 overall with the loss, while the Giants improve to 6-2.
Â
Things got off to a bad start for the Mustangs when the Giants managed to bring three runs across on three hits in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead. It did not get better in the bottom of the second when the Giants knocked in four runs, three of which came on a three-run homer by Anthony Ferrezza, leaving the home team up, 7-0.
Â
The Mustangs got one back in the top of the fourth.
Javier Ortiz led off with a single up the middle, and then stole second.
Jaylen Kelley drew a walk, and then
Eric Diaz sacrificed them both into scoring position. A ground out to second by
Eddy Vicioso was enough to bring Ortiz home from third for the Mustangs first run of the day.
Â
Unfortunately, the Giants did not look back after the fourth, putting up four more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to claim a 12-1 win.
Â
Matt Tarabola got the win for the Giants as one of their six pitchers on the afternoon.
Manielvic Diplan took the loss for Monroe to fall to 2-2.
Â
Bryant Perdomo went 1-for-3 in the game. Ortiz batted 1-for-4 with a run scored, while Vicioso picked up the only RBI for the Mustangs.
Â
The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Wednesday, April 3, when they visit Rockland Community College in Suffern, N.Y. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
