No. 3 Women’s Soccer Drops First Decision of the Season to No. 13 Harford in Overtime

BEL AIR, Md. September 14, 2017 – After a late tying goal sent the game into overtime, the No. 3 Monroe College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 13 Harford Community College in the extra period to shoulder its first loss of the season on Thursday at Harford Stadium. The Mustangs fall to 2-1 on the year, while the Fighting Owls improve to 7-1.

In the 37th minute, Angie Ponce found the back of the net off an assist from Anya Donelan, putting the Mustangs on top, 1-0, as the game neared halftime. That appeared to be all the scoring the game would have until Harford's Rachel Bohli netted the equalizer at the 88:22 mark of the game, forcing Thursday's contest into the extra frame. Bohli then managed to score off a feed from Mackenzie Forsythe just three minutes into overtime, winning the game for the home team.

Oriana Palacios took her first loss to fall to 2-1 after making five saves in the game. Harford keeper Crystal Kline stopped nine shots to improve to 7-1 with the win.

Ponce scored the only goal for the Mustangs, and led all players with nine shots, including six that went goal. Donelan provided the assist on Ponce's goal, her third in just two games.

Bohli tallied both scores for the Fighting Owls, while Forsythe dished out the assist on the game-winner. Mackenzie Wills tried a team-high four shots.

The Mustangs outshot their hosts, 24-13, including an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. Monroe also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Mustangs will look to bounce back in their next contest, a tough matchup against No. 1 Tyler Junior College down in Tyler, Texas on Thursday, Sept. 21. That game is set to begin at 11 a.m. The Mustangs will remain in Tyler on Friday, Sept. 22, to take on Northeast Texas Community College at 11 a.m.
