Trenton, N.J. – The Monroe College men's soccer team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 3-0 win over previously the unbeaten Mercer County College on Saturday.
Ignacio Goya accounted for all three Mustangs goals, while Filipe Hideki had two assists and
Veux Mane earned a helper on the third.
Goya opened the scoring in the 22
nd minute, finding the back of the net off a feed from Hideki. The defensive battle heated up from there, and neither side was able to score in the rest of the first half.
Entering the second half with the game still in doubt, the Hideki-to-Goya connection worked once again in the 76
th minute to put Monroe up, 2-0. Finally, in the closing minutes of the game, Mane put a ball into the box that found the head of Goya, who redirected it into the back of the net for the game's final goal. Monroe held on for a 3-0 victory.
Not to be overlooked was the defensive effort from the Mustangs. The backline once again stymied the opposition and didn't allow a single shot on goal for the second-straight game.
Svyat Kozak earned the clean sheet.
The Monroe College men's soccer team will return to action on Wednesday, September 14th, against CCRI in Warwick, RI.
