The Bronx, N.Y. – The Monroe College men's cross country team competed at the City College Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Sunday. The team saw four runners turn in personal best times during competition in the 8K race.
Leading the way for the Mustangs was
Qasim Ray. The Brooklyn, New York, product posted a fast time of 32:50.4. Following him was
Jamel Johnson. Johnson clocked a time of 36:15.3, a career-best for him.
Brian Rodriguez, running in his home town, was the third Mustangs runner to cross with a clocking of 37:39.5.
The other runners to turn in personal-bests in the meet were
Aaron McFadden (38:58.8),
Anthony Robinson (40:08.3) and
Richardson Pierre (40:20). Coach
Shirvon Greene summed up the meet by saying, "I'm really happy with (Sunday's) showing. We made lots of progress. I felt this day was extra special due to the fact that these men who are actually hurdlers took on the challenge of running Cross Country."
The Monroe College men's cross country team returns to action on Saturday, October 17, when they compete at the 2015 Region XV Championships at Sunken Meadow Park in Long Island. The meet, which gets underway at noon, will be hosted by St. Joseph's College.
