Diogo Alves Dos Santos Pereira made his mark for the Mustangs football team in Week 2. The former soccer player made two crucial extra points in Saturday's comeback victory over Nassau Community College, but his biggest moment came from 42 yards out with just over four minutes remaining. Having just tied the game, the Mustangs moved into field goal range late in the fourth quarter. Alves lined up for a 42-yard field goal, and sent it right through the uprights with plenty of distance to spare, eventually clinching the 17-14 win for Monroe.
In addition, Alves averaged 44.2 yards per punt on six punts, with one landing inside the 20-yard line and two netting 50-or-more yards, including a long of 60 yards. He also averaged 63.0 yards per kickoff, including two touchbacks.
